Dorothy Hepworth(1898-1978), pencil drawing on paper, Mrs Deakes (circa 1955), 42cm x 29 cm, mounted. Hepworth was the long-term lover of Patricia Preece, the second wife of Stanley Spencer. They both studied at the Slade but Hepworth was the much more prolific artist. However, Hepworth was very shy and signed much of her work in Patricia’s name who gained a considerable reputation as a result.
