£190
A Brynmawr Furniture Makers oak Arts & Crafts fireside chair, circa 1935, with provenance.
Good condition. Upholstery showing signs of age.
The maker of these chairs (name withheld at the family's request) worked at the Brynmawr Furniture Factory from 1932 as a 14 year old apprentice. After completing his apprentice, he worked as a qualified cabinet maker working under the guidance of Paul Matt. He made various pieces of furniture within the factory and was able to keep the pieces for personal use, which have remained in the family home. The furniture he made utilised the designs and structure recognisable only to the Gwalia Factory (Brynmawr).
Employees at the factory were not allowed to attach the factory badge on any of the pieces they made themselves and therefore no badge is present. They were purchased by the vendor directly from the family of the maker.
