A superb quality Japanese Shibayama cabinet, Meiji Period circa late 19th century, the carved and pierced pediment depicting dragons holding a pearl, asymmetrical gilded and lacquer panelled doors below with carved ivory mother-of-pearl inlaid decoration, a central curved drawer (needs reassembly) flanked by further Shibayama panels, 3 short drawers below above a carved and pierced base, height 189cm, base width 117cm

Cabinet has not been touched for at least 50 years and is in need of light restoration and cleaning, some of the gold edging to the upper panels is lifting, also a couple of tiny pieces of the mother-of-pearl and ivory inlay missing, there is a crack just under the pearl in the pediment but generally woodwork is in very good condition with no major splits or damage, curved drawer is in separate pieces which need reassembly, the tail on 1 of the ivory animal design finials is detached but still present
