Considered to be the largest isopod in the world, Bathynomus giganteus is an aquatic crustacean that looks like a giant woodlouse.
A rare perfect specimen, exquisitely preserved and presented with antenna and legs splayed.
Mounted vertically to an antique bone shaft pole with royal blue velour fabric to base. Displayed under a Victorian hand-blown glass dome with ebonised, bun footed base and gold barley twist rope trim.
The specimen caught in crayfish traps at 450-500 metres deep in the Atlantic Ocean, off of Guadeloupe, Caribbean.
The specimen alone measuring 27cms long (not including antennae).
