A comprehensive Meissen porcelain dinner service, late 19th century Onion pattern, including 3 oval vegetable tureens and covers, 2 sauce tureens and covers, salmon platter with strainer, 3 oval meat dishes, various serving bowls, plates of various sizes, coffee cups and saucers and egg cups
All pieces bear crossed swords except egg cups, only 1 egg cup has a crossed sword mark and none appear to have been cancelled or crossed through, the service has been bought at different periods and this reflects the mixture of pieces. 1 tureen lid has multiple chips to rim, 1 half moon dish is smaller than others and has chips around rim, 1 saucer / tea cup is chipped at rim, 1 tea cup has a hairline crack running through body, some discolouration to other tea cups, the second largest platter has a large chip at 1 end and rough edges with glaze rubbing, boat-shaped dish has small glaze chip to edge and some discolouration, very little crazing to any pieces, some surface discolouration but service would benefit from a general clean, the vast majority of pieces in good order. None of the cross sword marks appear to have been crossed through to denote second quality, 1 sauce boat base appears to have been restored. The largest platter has unglazed bisque finish to base as do the 2 gondola-shaped dishes. Large platter with scalloped edges has significant rubbing to glaze on high points as well as chip on end, some rubbing to edges. Large oval meat plate 55cm, vegetable tureen 27cm, large plates 24.5cm, small plates 23.5cm, crescent dishes 22cm, boat bowls 33cm, square-shaped bowl 25cm, leaf dish 27cm, largest oval meat plate 55cm, smallest 28cm
