Natural History : Scrimshaw Whale Tooth, 19th century.
A large polished sperm whale tooth with carved engravings to either side. One side with inscription “1851, The Brig Blyth, Captian Farrow” (note the misspelling of Captain) and image of a pair of anchors. The other side of the tooth with depiction of a sailing ship and ocean waves (note the British Ensign flag).
Excellent condition and patina throughout.
