Henry Thornton of London, early 18th century burr-walnut 8-day longcase clock, 12" square brass dial with silver chapter ring, calendar aperture and secondary dial, cherub and coronet spandrels, the brass 5-pillar 8-day movement striking on a bell, burr-walnut case with lenticle, overall height 221cm
This clock is part of the contents of Herbert Gasson Antiques, the contents of which we are selling following the death of the owner, Lots 1 - 55 in this sale are the entire contents of the shop, this clock being 1 of the personal possessions of the owner which was not for sale in the shop, case is a good medium walnut colour with several age-related cracks in the veneer including 1 at the top of the case door and 1 horizontally around the base of the trunk, case is walnut veneer on oak with original oak backboards, no obvious signs of repair or restoration, dial and movement appear to be original to each other, movement is good quality 5 pillar striking on a bell, all in good original condition, dial and movement fit the case and the hood, seat board appears original, cheeks supporting the seat board have been slightly step-cut so I can't be certain that this dial and movement are original to this case, all in good working order and currently running well
