Fossil: Extinct Megaloceras Irish Elk Scapula.
A fossil Irish Elk (Megaloceras giganteus) scapula (shoulder blade) bone.
Also known as the Giant Deer, it is the largest deer species to have ever existed. It stood up to seven feet at the shoulder with antlers spanning up to 12 feet.
Discovered in the North Sea, it has been treated and stabilised to remove the salts. Comes displayed upright on a post with square base.
From the Devensian Stage, Pleistocene Period ~20,000 years old.
