Brian Hargreaves (1935-2011), watercolour on paper, Silver Washed Fritillary, 8cm x 8cm, mounted, glazed and framed. Brian Hargreaves was the first artist to illustrate
every one of the butterflies of Britain and Europe. His book, Butterflies of Britain and Europe was eventually published in nine languages and as a result his work was
exhibited at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. The Natural History Museum holds eighty-one examples of his work, mostly watercolours. He illustrated numerous field guides for Collins and other leading natural history publishers
