A 19th century silver pair-cased open-face lever pocket watch, Robert Roskell of Liverpool, silver case marked Chester 1821, white enamel dial with painted Roman numeral hour markers, blued steel hands, subsidiary seconds dial and engraved patent balance cock, Patent lever, Edward Massey 1 lever escapement with 30 tooth escape wheel, serial no. 27472, outer case width 55mm, working order, with later heavy graduated curb link Albert watch chain, length 34cm. Notes: British Museum Biography:Watchmaker. Edward Massey junior who is the inventor and patenter of mechanical logs and sounding machines as well as the inventor and maker of a series of detached lever escapements commonly referred to as 'Massey Levers’.
