John Ryan (1925-1992), ink on paper, Portrait of Harris Tweed, signed with dedication to “Tony and Cynthia”, 23.5cm x 18.5cm, mounted, glazed and framed.
Provenance – drawing given by the artist to Tony and Cythia Reavell, the owners of the Martello Bookshop in Rye, where Ryan lived until his death in 1992. They had
been instrumental in helping him, with the assistance of The Sunday Times, to “guilt” new publishers of his Harris Tweed strip from the Eagle comic into paying him
royalties which he had signed away forty years before as a young man. Accompanied by correspondence and article from The Sunday Times literary editor etc. detailing the
literary battle
